Underwater Photography Workshops
Small-group underwater photography coaching in Victoria, focused on macro, snoot lighting, composition, and temperate marine life.
Oceansoul Photography workshops are designed for divers who want to move beyond record shots and start making deliberate underwater images.
The focus is practical. You will learn how to approach a subject, control your light, manage your background, compose with intent, and make stronger decisions before pressing the shutter.
This is not a generic camera class. It is field-based underwater photography coaching built around real subjects, real conditions, and the kind of problems divers actually face underwater.
What you will learn
You will learn how to create cleaner, stronger underwater images by improving the basics that matter most:
Camera setup
Strobe positioning
Snoot aim and control
Subject approach
Background selection
Eye contact and behaviour
Composition and crop decisions
Editing restraint
Portfolio and competition thinking
The goal is simple: fewer accidental shots, more deliberate images.
Workshop styles
Macro Foundations
For divers who want to improve their close-focus underwater photography.
This workshop covers subject selection, camera settings, focus discipline, strobe position, background control, and how to build a clean image underwater rather than trying to rescue it later on the computer.
Best for beginner to intermediate underwater photographers.
Snoot Lighting Workshop
For photographers who want stronger subject isolation, cleaner backgrounds, and more dramatic light.
This workshop focuses on snoot positioning, aiming, distance, beam control, subject choice, and how to avoid the common beginner mistake of lighting everything except the part of the animal that matters.
Best for photographers who already understand basic macro and want to build a more controlled style.
Temperate Portfolio Coaching
For photographers working toward competitions, publications, or a stronger personal style.
This session looks beyond single images. We work on image selection, portfolio consistency, editing restraint, storytelling, subject strength, and whether the image has enough impact to belong in a serious body of work.
Best for photographers who want honest feedback and clear direction.

Who this is for
These workshops are suited to underwater photographers who are comfortable diving and want to improve their image-making.
You do not need to be an advanced photographer, but you do need to be safe, controlled, and respectful underwater. Good buoyancy and sensible diving habits matter. If you are still fighting your gear and crashing into the bottom, fix that first.
What to bring
Camera and housing
Macro lens or close-focus setup
Strobe or video light
Snoot, if you have one
Dive gear suitable for local Victorian conditions
Laptop or tablet for image review, if requested
A willingness to be corrected
About the coaching
The feedback is direct and practical. You will be told what is working, what is weakening the image, and what to change next.
The aim is not to make your images look like everyone else’s. The aim is to help you understand what your image is trying to say, then make the lighting, composition, and editing support that idea.
